Want to pay in-state tuition at UGA?
The Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) Academic Common Market has enabled students to pursue out-of-state college degrees at discounted tuition rates, through agreements among the states and colleges and universities. Currently, only our B.S. in Environmental Health Science is eligible for this program. To qualify you must: 1) be a resident of one of the 16 SREB states; 2 ) complete the admission process at the institution offering the eligible Academic Common Market program; and 3) be certified as a resident of your home state by contacting the ACM coordinator for your state of residence. Department of Environmental Health Science
- The Harold and Mary Barnhart Undergraduate Scholarship. Dr. Harold Barnhart has been, and continues to be, a great influence to many of the Environmental Health Science (EHS) alumni. As an EHS faculty member, he provided his students with the leadership, guidance, and encouragement they needed to become successful in environmental health, and he continues to be a role model for many of his former students today. The Barnhart Scholarship is awarded to a junior with a high GPA, involvement in relevant extracurricular activities, and financial need based on brief essay.
- Environmental Health Science Scholarship. This fund provides scholarship support to student populations that are underrepresented within the Department of Environmental Health Science. Criteria for selection will be based upon academic achievement, letters of recommendation and the student’s stated interest in Environmental Health careers.
- The Georgia Power Environmental Health Science Scholarship. Awarded annually to two students in the Department of Environmental Health Science from underrepresented and diverse backgrounds. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic excellence and career interest in the Environmental Health Science field.
- The Randall O. Manning Scholarship. This award provides financial support to an undergraduate student majoring in Environmental Health Science who has excelled in internship experiences. It honors the legacy of Dr. Randall Manning (1956-2012) who received his bachelor, master and doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia. Dr. Manning spent 20 years inspiring, teaching and mentoring environmental health student interns and provided future environmental health scientists with hands-on training that would allow them to excel in their chosen field.
- The Rowe Environmental Health Award is named in honor of the Rowe Family and in memory of Kimberly Lynne Rowe (1970-1995), an Environmental Health Science alumnus and a budding public health professional. Awarded to a graduating senior majoring in Environmental Health Science with a strong interest in public health. Selection criteria for this cash award is based on letters of recommendation, aspiration of the student, financial need and/or academic performance. No application is required. The recipient is selected by the EHS Department’s Scholarship Committee.
- John J. Sheuring Scholarship, established in 1967 by the Georgia Society of Professional Sanitarians (now known as the Georgia Environmental Health Association) in honor of Professors John Sheuring and Herb Henderson who started the Environmental Health Science program. Awarded to a student(s) in the Environmental Health Science major. Recipient(s) are selected on the basis of academic excellence and participation in campus activities. A Scholarship Application form is required for this award.
- GEHA Irving Bell Golf Scholarship. Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior majoring in Environmental Health Science with an interest in public health. This scholarship, supported by the Georgia Environmental Health Association (GEHA), covers all expenses (travel, food, accommodations, etc..) needed to attend the GEHA Annual Educational Conference, and includes a one-year paid membership to GEHA. Selection based on academic achievement, financial need, letters of recommendation, personal statement of the applicant, and the evaluation of the student’s internship. Special application is required.
Department of Health Promotion and Behavior
- The David Hayes Undergraduate Award provides undergraduate Health Promotion and Behavior students with opportunities to develop their teaching, research and general professional skills and to enhance their undergraduate experience by supporting conference attendance, professional education classes and training, and classroom instruction support. The award fund honors the career of David M. Hayes, Ph.D. Throughout his career, Dr. Hayes was committed to student instruction and served as faculty in the Department of Health Promotion and Behavior at the University of Georgia for over 20 years.To apply:Application Information
- Bernard Ramsey Outstanding Senior Undergraduate Award. This awards recognizes an outstanding senior undergraduate major in Health Promotion based on student academic performance, professional development-related experiences, and accomplishments within the framework of the Professional Health Educator Competencies. The student selected by the Health Promotion and Behavior Faculty Committee receives a cash prize, a certificate, and their name is included on the Outstanding Senior Undergraduate Award during the spring semester. Open to Graduate Students College-wide
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia Foundation MPH Student Support Fund. The fund supports travel awards for exceptional MPH students interested in attending an academic conference or meeting during the academic year. Special considerations are given to students with accepted abstracts, journals, or presentations for the conference or meeting they wish to attend, students who have received matched funds from their department or funded grant. - Kaiser Permanente Health Disparities Fellowship Award. The award funds a full assistantship every other year for a Ph.D. student whose dissertation topic relates to health disparities.
- Public Health Outreach Support Fund Award. The award provides support to student(s) in the College of Public Health to explore the everyday challenges facing communities of need, including developing an understanding of health disparities, dissemination of information about health disparities, and participation in projects to address health disparities. Priority is for funding activities in Georgia communities of need. Funding can include travel, housing, and operational costs of service and research activities.
- Stuart & Renée Feldman Health Disparities Award. This award provides students, faculty and staff in the College of Public Health the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of health disparities and the outcomes faced by underserved and disadvantaged populations, to disseminate information about these health disparities, and to develop and participate in activities designed to address the problem of health disparities for these populations.
Environmental Health Science
- The Georgia Power Professor Distinguished Graduate Fellowship in Environmental Health Science. Supports a graduate assistant to work with and assist in the research of the Georgia Power Professor of Environmental Health Science.
Epidemiology & Biostatistics
- Ann & Tipton Golias International Travel Award. This travel award provides support to graduate students within the College of Public Health who are participating in internships abroad concentrating in epidemiology. The Fund was created in honor of Ann and Tipton Golias, founders of Helena Laboratories and lifelong colleagues and friends of Dr. Robert S. Galen, a founding faculty member of the College of Public Health.
Health Policy and Management
- The Connie Lloyd Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a student in the Department of Health Policy & Management. The recipient of the scholarship shall have a program of study that includes coursework, outreach, or internships focused on leadership, women, and health. The scholarship was established in 1993 to honor Connie Lloyd. Mrs. Lloyd was born as the second of six children during the Depression. She was an ardent proponent of education and professional development for all and was an innovative pioneer in health care management and leadership.
Graduate Assistantships
A number of graduate assistantships are awarded each year within the various units and departments of the College of Public Health. Typically, graduate teaching or research assistantships are granted for the full academic year, but awards are sometimes made for shorter periods. Research assistantships that faculty obtain through research grants may also become available during the year. Contact the Graduate Coordinator in your department for more information.
